AC & Electrical Repair FAQs
The average cost of repairing an air conditioner is typically $336. Pricing usually ranges from $163-$520, with repairs costing as much as $1100, depending on the complexity of the project. Replacing a house air compressor, for example, can cost between $1350 and $1800, while replacing an evaporator coil can cost between $650 and $1200.
The cost of replacing a home AC system ranges from $5,000 to $10,000, with an average of $7,000. Prices are determined by the size and brand of the AC system, the size of the house, the length of the ductwork and the efficiency rating of the new unit.
Ask friends and family for recommendations, and always ask to see a copy of the electrician’s state license and evidence of insurance. Check that both are up to date. An electrician working on a typical residential renovation job should have at least $500,000 in liability and workers’ compensation insurance for themself and their crew. If everything appears to be in order, verify references and review employment history.

Excellent Service with the Knowledge and Integrity to back it up
Jimmy - Rancho Mirage, CA 92270
Thank your for your help Thor! Your knowledge of the ins and outs of heating/air conditioning etc is incredible and your ability to take that knowledge and put it to use in the real world/hands on/get the job done right etc and not being afraid to "dive in and get dirty" so to speak to make sure everyting is done right/safe etc is very refreshing to see. Many people tell me how good their HVAC company is since they showed up early, their truck was clean, their tool box was shiny, their uniform was pressed, used proper language etc and when I ask them why they keep coming back all the time since their HVAC systems are not working properly they reply that they are so nice etc...I tell them to call Hydes and get it done right the first time with the knowledge/service to back it up(which their companies do not appear to have) plus they have real tools in their tool boxes that they know how how to use them-along with the clean trucks, nice people etc which is also important. Thank you Thor and Hydes!!!

Performed cooling maintenance on two 2016. AC pro systems, furnaces are located in separate outside closets and east and west end of home. Changed out to 20 x 25 x 1 filter located at furnace, cleared condensation lines, check, water, safety switches for proper operation, water safety switches are located after P-trap. switches are operating properly, but do not know how effective they will be due to placement, hydes did not install. Verified proper sequence of operation, checked volts and amps, checked, capacitors, checked compressor, saver kits, found system serial number 2181 with 70/7.5 µF capacitor out of range, recommended installed and tested new 70/7.5 µF capacitor, verified refrigerant levels and line temperatures and temperature splits and cycled systems. Heater service on 2019 split systems and 2017 package unit.Washed washable filters.Checked all safety switches and gas pressures.Checked thermostat for any fault codes.Cleaned burners and checked temperature rise. recommend installing water safety switches to prevent water damage to the home or equipment due to condensation back up or overflow. Also recommend installing search protectors on each FAU and condensing unit or whole home. Surge protection to protect the equipment from power outages, faulty, breakers, or any other electrical failure that may occur and caused damage to the systems. American Standard systems are communicating platinum systems
Maurice B.
Performed cooling maintenance on two 2019 American standard platinum split systems and 2017 Goodman roof top package unit. Furnaces are located in garage closet, condensers are located on roof, filters are washable and located within furnace cabinet, washed filters, cleared condensation lines at Jones valve, verified proper sequence of operation, checked volts and amps, checked for any past/current error codes on Thermostat and CDA, check, refrigerant levels and line temperatures and temperature split and cycled systems. Found 50/5 µF capacitor starting amps out of range for Goodman system. Recommend replacement for 50/5 µF capacitor and installing compressor saber kit to prevent any further damage to compressor and internal windings and assist compressor at start. Therefore prolonging life of compressor. Everything else checked out operational at this time of service. Will send over estimates for repairs.

Performed cooling maintenance on 2021 day and nite coil/condenser, fau in garage. Changed 20x25 customer supplied filter with fau. Cleared condensation drain and tested water safety switch. Cleaned condensing coil and cleaned out electrical compartment. 70/7.5 dual run capacitor is good. Compressor and fan motor run amps were ok. Refrigerant pressures, superheat (15) subcool (13) and delta t of 21, charge is to unit specifications. Compressor starting amps were 152 and rated for 127, this is known as inrush amps and causes wear on compressor and outdoor components, recommended installing a hard start kit to lower starting amps and prolong life of compressor. Also recommended surge protection to protect ac system components, compressor, and whole home surge protection would protect all electronics in the house.

Performed annual heater maintenance on three 2013 American Standard split systems FAU located inside attic. Attic access located inside theater room. Change to 20 x 30 x 1, 20 x 25 x 1, 14 x 24 x 1 and 12 x 30 x 1 filters. Check amps, volts, capacitor for blower motor, and all safety switches. Checked gas and static pressures. Also check temperature rise in flash condensation line. Found all electrical and safety components to be within manufacture specifications. All three systems are operating and heating properly at time of service. We will need to return to install 10 x 10 bar type register.
