Thyroid cancer is a tumor that develops in the thyroid gland found in the neck. It is the most commonly diagnosed endocrine cancer and has been known to occur in individuals anywhere from infancy to old age. Its diagnosis has increased in recent years and The American Cancer Society predicts there will be 56,870 new cases of thyroid cancer in the United State alone, in the year 2017.
Thyroid cancer touched the Hyde Family last year and has inspired our company once again to help spread the word that September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. Mark and Judy’s daughter, Shelby, was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer at the age of 21. Shelby was diagnosed in February 2016 and had her thyroid removed that March.
She underwent radio-iodine therapy in July of that same year. As of today, Shelby is cancer free and on May 9, 2017 she graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication earning a degree in sports journalism. She also finished among the top 25 of her class!
