HVAC & Electrical FAQs
On average, indoor air quality testing costs between $250 and $300. You can expect to pay about $295 for mold and moisture testing and $135 to $150 for radon testing. You may be able to get these services at a discount if you combine them with a more complete house inspection report.
Indoor air quality testing may detect the presence of numerous pollutants in your home’s air, such as mold and mildew. Contaminants from chemicals and combustion may also be tested for.
The average cost of replacing an HVAC system is $7,000, but can range from $5,000 to $10,000. The price range is determined by a variety of criteria and options, such as system size, type, energy efficiency, time of year purchased, rebates/incentives, equipment manufacturer and labor/installation costs. If you also need to replace ductwork, you can expect to pay an extra $1,875 for a single-story 2,200-square-foot home.
The filters and coils of an air conditioner must be maintained on a regular basis in order for the unit to work properly and efficiently during the course of its service life. Ignoring required maintenance results in a gradual deterioration in air conditioning effectiveness while increasing energy consumption.
The most crucial maintenance job for ensuring the effectiveness of your air conditioner is to change or clean its filters on a regular basis. The coils of an air conditioner naturally accumulate dirt over time. A clean filter keeps the coils from becoming too dirty to effectively cool your home. Regular maintenance ensures the filters and coils are clean and performing correctly.
The average household pays between $167 and $600 for AC repair. Pricing for this project varies considerably depending on the issue, part, and complexity of the project. Repairing a malfunctioning thermostat, for example, is likely to be less expensive than repairing a central AC system.
Depending on the amperage, the typical cost to replace an electrical panel ranges from $850 to $2,500. A 100-amp service panel upgrade costs between $850 and $1,600, a 200-amp breaker box replacement costs between $1,800 and $2,500, and a 400-amp electrical service upgrade costs between $2,000 and $4,000.
Some of the advantages of recessed lighting include:
- The ability to cover a larger area.
- Even distribution of lights for consistent illumination across rooms.
- Customization with a number of available styles.
Recessed lighting is commonly used in kitchens, living rooms and closets. Although they are more discreet than a chandelier, not all recessed lights look the same. An eyeball trim, for example, aids with wall-wash lighting, but a reflector trim is better suited for mirrored surfaces.
Here are some advantages of installing a heat pump:
- They consume less energy. Heat pumps use a different technique from standard heaters to reduce your home's energy use and lower your monthly expenses.
- They enhance the quality of your indoor air. Heat pumps circulate and mix outside air with inside air, resulting in better indoor air quality.
- They supply your home with balanced, consistent warmth. Heat pumps, as opposed to standard HVAC equipment, generate a more pleasant environment within the home.
If your panel is older than 25 years, you may need to replace it. An electrical panel that is more than 25 years old might be hazardous. If you don’t want to replace it, it’s a good idea to have an electrical check performed by one of our electricians to ensure everything is in working condition.
It is very important to hire the best professional for the job. Here are a few easy actions to take:
- Get referrals. Check to see if any of your friends or coworkers recommend an excellent electrician based on their own experience.
- Request a copy of the electrician’s license. Using your state’s online resources, you may confirm the electrician’s license status.
- Check to see whether the electrician is insured. If the firm has employees, all electricians must be covered by workers’ compensation insurance.

Response from Hydes Air Conditioning:
Hi Terry I am sorry for the confusion...the sensor was about half of that cost at $259 and the balance was for the trip charge and the annual maintenance contract. I see that Frank has already completed the first maintenance visit and we have your next one scheduled. Thank you for becoming a Hyde's Family Comfort Plan member and we will see you again soon.

Upon arrival call for fan only from thermostat did not engage. Verified24v at circuit board. Circuit board has 2 g terminals. GH AND GC. Board was previously wired to gh, so with new circuit board installation wiring was mimicked to the same configuration. Switched g wire from gh to gc, fan only operation began. Tested multiple times and fan and furnace are running properly at this time.

Performed cooling maintenance on (2) 2010 American standard silver split systems, faus in attic. Changed (2) 14x30 filters in ceiling grilles above ecobee thermostats. Ecobee thermostats working properly. Homeowner has hot room in tv room. Single supply but good airflow. 3 walls and one is sliding glass doors. I Performed Maintenance on both the Cooling Systems. Also checked a 20x30 18x18 2) 14x14 and 2) 12x12 Filters and they’re clean. Filters were changed just two months ago. Both Cooling Systems are 2022 Heat Pump model located on the ground. I advised client about adding Hard Start Kits to both units to help reduce compressor start up amperage. Sent client estimates for it. Both Cooling Systems checked out operational at the time of the service.

Service on 2003 trane equipment. Washed filter, cleaned drain line, verified electrical connections are tight and secure. Verified heating sequence of operation is operational. Checked cooling sequence of operation is operational. Checked all capacitors, motor amps, refrigerant pressures. Condenser fan motor leaking oil and in very poor condition. Equipment pulling high lock rotor Amps which is a sign of compressor working hard to start. System has had refrigerant added which indicates possible leak, refrigerant levels tested ok for this time of year. Equipment well past life expectancy also uses R22 refrigerant which has been phased out and is no longer manufactured would highly recommend replacing equipment to avoid costly repairs. Advise on options. Eamailed equipment replacement option and attached below. $2000.00 tax credit available for new installation
