4 Reasons Why Your Air Conditioner Might Blow Warm Air

1. Low refrigerant levels. Refrigerant is the lifeblood of your cooling system. It’s what removes heat from inside your home and carries it to your outdoor unit in order to be dumped outside. So if your system has a refrigerant leak or it was improperly charged during its installation, there will not be enough refrigerant to effectively remove heat from your home. So although air might be coming out of your registers, it certainly will not be cool enough.

2. Dirty cooling coils. Over time, dirt can build up on your air conditioner’s coils. This is especially true if you do not change your air filter at least once every 30-90 days. When dirt is on your coils, it adds a layer between the coils and the air that’s blown over them, which makes it harder for your home’s air to be cooled.

3. Malfunctioning compressor. Your air conditioner’s compressor is one of your system’s most essential components because it makes it possible to transfer heat to the air outside. If the compressor is malfunctioning, your air conditioner will not be able to effectively remove heat from your home and your system will distribute warm air.

 4. Improper thermostat settings. One of the simplest explanations for an air conditioner blowing warm air is that your thermostat is not set properly. If your thermostat is not in the “cool” mode but your fan is set to “on,” air will be cycled throughout your home but it will not be cooled.
